Language: This is an English translation for convenience. If there is any conflict with the Japanese Privacy Policy, the Japanese text prevails regarding governing law and related interpretation.
Family Tree Now (FamTreeNow, the “App”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how it is used or shared. Please also review the Terms of Service.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to data handling for the iOS App where we are involved. For Premium purchase terms, see the Terms of Service.
2. Information We Handle
2.1 Data Mainly Stored Locally
The following data is mainly stored on your device. If you use iCloud save features, it may also be stored in your Apple iCloud user area. We do not configure our own server to aggregate and store users’ family tree data.
- Project names, details, themes, created and updated timestamps
- Person information, including names, kana or phonetic names, maiden names, gender, dates of birth and death, living status, profile photos, notes, and timestamps
- Family relationship information, including marriage, partner relationships, separation status, parent-child relationships, biological/adopted/step classifications, and relationship notes
- Event information, including birth, death, marriage, divorce, partnership, child birth, moves, notes, custom events, dates, related persons, and notes
- Family tree display settings, canvas layout, focus person, search and display state
- App settings such as additional free limits granted through Premium or rewarded ads
Data on the device may be lost or changed if you uninstall the App, reset the device, delete data in the App, import data, or restore data.
2.2 Photos
The App lets users select images as profile photos for people. The App is not intended to access the entire photo library, but selected image data may be saved as part of family tree data and may be included in backups and exports.
2.3 Imported and Exported Data
The App may support importing or exporting family tree data in formats such as JSON, GEDCOM, PDF, and PNG. These files may contain personal information, photos, family relationships, events, and notes. Users are responsible for managing exported files after export.
2.4 Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services. Please also review each provider’s privacy policy.
#### (1) Purchases and Subscriptions (RevenueCat / Apple)
- Purpose: Premium purchase processing, purchase status checks, restore purchases, entitlement management
- Data that may be handled: purchase and subscription information, anonymous app user IDs, device and OS technical information, and similar data
- Reference: RevenueCat Privacy Policy
Payments themselves are processed by Apple, and Apple’s privacy policy also applies.
#### (2) iCloud (Manual Save and Restore)
- Purpose: User-initiated saving and restoring of family tree data
- Handling: A JSON file containing family tree data may be saved in the user’s Apple iCloud area. iCloud storage, sync, deletion, restoration, and access management follow Apple’s specifications, settings, terms, and privacy policy.
#### (3) Ads and Consent Management (Google AdMob / Google User Messaging Platform)
- Purpose: rewarded ads, ad safety, ad measurement, consent-based ad requests, and privacy options
- Data that may be handled: advertising ID (IDFA if permitted through ATT), device information, IP address, ad impressions/clicks and related usage data, consent status, and similar data
- References: Google Privacy Policy, Google advertising technologies
In the current implementation, the App uses UMP to update consent information and show required consent forms or privacy options, and uses Google Mobile Ads when ad requests are allowed. If you do not allow tracking through the iOS ATT prompt, IDFA-based tracking is not performed. Even when personalized ads are not allowed, non-personalized ads and aggregated measurement such as SKAdNetwork may be used.
#### (4) Contact and Support
If you contact us through email, support pages, App Store developer support, or other external services, we or the relevant service provider may process the message content, email address, account information, device/OS/app version, and other information you voluntarily provide. Please avoid including unnecessary personal information or family tree data in support requests.
3. Purposes of Use
We use handled information for the following purposes:
1. Providing the App, including family tree creation, display, editing, saving, search, statistics, timelines, import, export, backup, and restore 2. Checking Premium purchase status, restoring purchases, preventing abuse, and providing support 3. Displaying ads, maintaining ad safety, consent-based ad delivery, and feature unlocking through rewarded ads 4. Quality improvement, bug analysis, and understanding usage, including non-identifying aggregation 5. Legal compliance, rights protection, and dispute handling
We do not use the information for purposes outside this scope.
4. Retention
- Device data: retained until you delete or overwrite it, uninstall the App, reset the device, or take similar action.
- iCloud data: governed by your iCloud settings and Apple’s policies.
- RevenueCat / Apple / Google: governed by each provider’s policies.
- Support requests: may be retained as needed for response, records, and legal compliance. External services follow their own policies.
5. Sharing, Disclosure, and International Transfers
We do not sell personal information or share it with third parties for marketing purposes except as described below:
- When required by law or court order
- When necessary to protect life, body, or property and obtaining consent is difficult
- When using or entrusting processing to third-party services described in this Policy, including Apple, RevenueCat, and Google for purchases, iCloud, ads, consent management, or support
Apple, RevenueCat, Google, and similar providers may have servers outside Japan, including in the United States. Safeguards and handling are described in each provider’s privacy policy.
6. Information About Third Parties, Children, and Deceased Persons
The App may be used to enter information about relatives, third parties, minors, and deceased persons. We do not normally review the content of user-entered family relationships or personal information. When entering, saving, sharing, publishing, or exporting third-party information or photos, users should obtain consent where appropriate and consider applicable laws, social norms, and family circumstances.
The App is not designed primarily for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. However, users may enter information about children as part of family tree data. Parents and guardians should carefully manage the entry, storage, and sharing of children’s information.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You may have rights to request access, correction, addition, deletion, or suspension of use under applicable privacy laws. Family tree data stored on the device or in iCloud should generally be deleted or changed by users through the App, device, iCloud settings, or exported file management.
Where privacy options or consent choices are shown in the App, you can review those choices there. iOS settings may also allow you to change advertising identifier or tracking permissions.
Premium subscription management, cancellation, and refunds are handled through Apple ID subscription management and Apple’s guidance.
8. Security
We strive to take appropriate safeguards against leakage, loss, or damage of personal information. However, we cannot guarantee complete security of devices, iCloud, the internet, third-party services, or exported files. Please carefully choose where and how to save or share exported family tree data.
9. App Store Privacy Labels
App Store Connect privacy answers are based on the App implementation, incorporated SDKs, RevenueCat, Google Mobile Ads, Google User Messaging Platform, and iCloud usage. The App Store display and this Policy may be updated as SDK specifications or dashboard settings change.
10. Changes
We may change this Policy. Changes take effect when posted on this page on kitokito.app or otherwise notified. For material changes, we will try to notify users in the App or App Store release notes.
11. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, please use Support, in-app contact options, or App Store developer support links.
